THE OVC TECHNICAL CONSULTATION

USAID is convening a technical consultation in Washington, DC to share and discuss the latest knowledge and program approaches in addressing the escalating crisis of children affected by HIV/AIDS around the world, and with particular emphasis on sub-Saharan Africa. Day 1, through plenary presentations, will focus on the magnitude of the problem, global strategic approaches, principles for implementation, and programming issues. This day will provide an introduction and overview for organizations that are new to this type of programming and a review of the basic tenets for those who are more experienced in working with children affected by HIV/AIDS. Days 2 & 3, through a series of technical working groups, will be devoted to discussing specific issues in greater depth. These issues include health, education, psychosocial support, children without family care, HIV-positive children, models of community approaches, and economic and food security.

The conference was held November 3- 5, 2003 at the Renaissance Hotel in Washington, DC. Please check the presentations and materials page for publications and documents used at the conference.
