BASIC
EDUCATION
SARA
assists the Bureau for Africa in achieving its objectives in education
:
- to disseminate
and provide guidance on policies, approaches and tools to increase sustainability
and efficiency in the provision of basic education
- To strengthen
the enabling environment to promote improve education sector policies,
programs and strategies
SARA
focuses on the following issues:
- identifying
priority issues and researching new developments in the provision of
education in Africa. Issues currently include the new role of NGOs in
basic education, community schools programs, lifeskills in the HIV/AIDS
context, and education in countries in crisis
- promoting
in-country stakeholders' dialogue around some of these issues such as
in Mali, Guinea , Ethiopia and Malawi
- providing
technical assistance to USAID field programs in selected countries
-
strengthening the capacity and upgrading the leadership of regional
education networks such as the Education
- Research
Network for West and Central Africa (ERNWACA) which has chapters in
11 countries
-
providing research guidance, publication and dissemination assistance
to ERNWACA researchers in the production of transnational studies on
issues of access, quality and community participation in education
-
conducting impact assessments of USAID AFR/SD/Education activities
